Dear World

When I am awaking,
half in dreams,
I feel most peaceful.
Then it seems
the world is rushing
oh so fast.
I pause to make
the moment last.

First stand and say
I'm one with all.
I am arrived, behold today!
I'm free, and safe,
I look around.
I'm solid me
on solid ground.

And oh that moment lasts
so long, I've time to sing
a thankful song.
I thank you all beloved ones,
and thank this precious day.
I thank the home, my body,
I thank the milky way.
I think of those I most can help
and what I want to do.
And now I'm ready to go out,
I want to live with you!

Trees in the park

This heady scent of eucalyptus
must be that of Mount Olympus.

Oh ye gods so far away
in time and space, beyond the fray,

You seem to have your troubles too.
Yet here on earth, so far from you,

I see the heaven in my days.
Sip the nectar, count the ways

My life's replete, so full of joy,
out strolling with my girl, and boy.

counting

I tried to count the spots
on the giraffe, down at the zoo.
But every time I got halfway,
one spot would look at me and say
"you counted me already,
didn't you?"

I tried to count the wrinkles
on an elephant nearby.
But each wrinkle had a wrinkle
and the lake beside her twinkled
to conceal even more crinkles
from her feet up to her eyes.

I tried to count the stripes
upon the zebras in the grass.
I started with a black line first.
It split in two and then dispersed.
Now should I count the white?
alack, alas!

I tried to count the teeth inside
the hairy lion's jaws.
I sneaked up close and I met trouble
and so retreated on the double
as he reached out and stretched
his sharpened claws!

I'm all done counting at the zoo,
I'll find another way.
The monkeys threw banana peels,
The kangaroos were not genteel.
I'll try again, perhaps another day.

On Toys in Bed

As sleep is likened to death,
I liken my son to Tutankhamen.
On voyage to the world beyond.

Each night clutching newly
treasured objects to the purpose:
A boat to sail, a spaceship,
planes to fly.
A beloved mate, a co-pilot.
A kitchen implement, for sword,
or cooking on the journey?
A voyage on a nameless way,
New, and negotiated each night alone.
Toward a sea, overflowing with surprise.
Play, delight, feats impossible in gravity;
Irritations mundane, feelings unbound.
Warm love remembered,
Fears, the impossible, realized.

We lull him each in our way, at our turn.
Tell stories, Sing lullabies,
hymns of Hermes.
Give in to a bit of banter.
By his side, we soften his grip on the oars,
Allay swells of anxiety - we gods of his sea.
Darkness, the void, overtakes his vessel.
Until morning, king. Go in peace,
We wish you safest passage.

Minnesota

On a boat that floats
that floats through the air
I'm flying to Minnesota.

I spin the propellers
on top and in back.
Its sails are my wings.
On a starboard tack,
I'm flying to Minnesota

First skip on the river,
the great Mississippi,
I'll pop o'er the falls
in Park Minnehaha,
Nokomis, and Harriet
to Lake Calhoun,
Around me spring,
some weeks before June,
yes I'm flying to Minnesota.

While Fall is amazing
if you've never been,
the Spring is enchanting.
The ice is all melting.
The humans are blooming,
along with the crocus,
I'm flying to Minnesota

My loved ones all will be waiting
we'll dine and enjoy a show.
A play, or a concert,
a dance or a game.
They live in my heart,
far too many to name.
Yes, I'm flying to Minnesota.

Busy Bee Song

Buzz Buzz,
Busy, busy bee.
Pollenating flowers
on the tree tree tree...

Buzz Buzz,
Busy, busy bee.
Nectar from the flowers
Makes sweet honey!

The Bubble Trouble Song

Chorus: I've got bubble-bubble-bubble-bubble
trouble trouble troubles
whoops, I spilt my bubbles!

I've got bubble-bubble-bubble-bubble
trouble trouble troubles
whoops, I spilt my bubbles.

I've got bubbles on the floor
bubbles on the chair
I wanted all my bubbles in the air air air
but then I slipped, and then I spilt my bubbles, everywhere.

Chorus:
I've got bubble-bubble-bubble-bubble...

I've got bubbles on my pants
and bubbles in my hair
I wanted to make bubbles over here and there,
but then I slipped and then I spilt my bubbles, everywhere.

Chorus:
I've got bubble-bubble-bubble-bubble...

I went to clean them up and suds got everywhere
I slipped on all the suds and hit my derriere
Now I'm covered in suds and
I've bubbles, everywhere!

Chorus:
I've got bubble-bubble-bubble-bubble...
